Life As I Know It

This past weekend marked 3 months since we moved to Guatemala. I can honestly say it has been a wonderful 3 months. It does feel like we've been here a lot longer than that though.

We both are finding a new normal since we have moved to our house. Tristan is helping at the clinic and school in Oratorio. He often plays football (soccer) with the students much to their delight. With his daily interaction with the little guys, I enjoy seeing them sidle up to him and chatter away.

Tristan can hold conversations quite well since he has been able to speak Spanish with people on a regular basis. He has had a couple devotions in Spanish.

I can't understand any Spanish which makes church services a patience building process. A couple of the missionary ladies will sweetly write notes down for me in English. Then I can read them and get a glimpse into what the sermon is about.

I am teaching Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. I am very grateful I was given this opportunity. It helps my days not be quite so lonely. Couple days last week and a day this week Tristan took me to the clinic to count inventory. That also helped pass my day.

When I need groceries I will walk into town for what I need. When they tell me my total, I blindly hand the money hoping it is the correct amount. I will not say grocery shopping is a favorite but you got to do what you got to do.

I have been having issues with everything I bake turning out to be a flop. We buy our flour from a bread shop so we are starting with using flour from somewhere else hoping it fixes the issue. If not, maybe we will just not eat pastries.

Our evenings get filled up without any problems. We often join the youth when they have activities. Usually every other week they have volleyball. The off week they have a Bible study. This Friday night we have Bible study and we are hosting the youth group.

Tuesday nights is music class. I actually don't go along. I initially signed up, but the class in Spanish really does me no good so I stay home while Tristan goes.

Thursday evenings is prayer meeting.

Water Tank

We no longer need to use the neighbors water. Tristan set up our own water tank and it has worked so well. I don't use a hose anymore to fill up my washer. He set it up that I can turn a knob and the washer is filled.

Parque Arqueologico Tazumal

We took a group of young ladies to some ruins in El Salvador. We had a great tour guide which made the experience 1,000 times better.

Our tour guide was telling us how we see only 20% of the temple. 80% is under the ground. One the reasons it is still under ground is because it is made of adobe and easily crumbles.

It was a long day but it was worth it.

I am a quote fan and so once again I will close with a quote.

"Courage takes many forms, but true and lasting courage is found only when we are rooted in God's Word." Ann White
